Situation — Attack, leak or dispute

One morning, all our computers were locked: our files were encrypted, and the hackers are threatening to publish our data if we don't pay.

Context

On Monday morning, none of your computers will start up normally. A message appears instead of the desktop: your files are encrypted.

The hackers demand a ransom. They threaten to publish your data if you don't pay.

The problem

  • Business has stopped: no more quotes, no more invoices, no more production.
  • Your clients' data may already have been copied.
  • Every hour counts if you are to preserve the evidence and decide what to tell your clients.

Case study

Real-life caseOctober 2025

Alu Perpignan, aluminium and PVC joinery, Occitanie

In October 2025, the hacker group Qilin paralysed the servers and computers of Alu Perpignan, an SME making aluminium and PVC windows and doors. Business applications and data became unavailable.

Qilin added the company to the list of victims on its darknet site, a hidden part of the internet. It claimed to hold internal and client data, and threatened to publish everything if the company does not negotiate.

According to the company, business was halted for about three weeks. The lost revenue is estimated at three months' turnover.
